Louisville Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard Educates Customers About Fire Hazard Associated with Christmas Trees and Lights

Live trees will burn quickly and fill a home with deadly gasses; frayed wires on old holiday lights can cause a fire

Louisville KY -- Dryer vent cleaning is the number one way to prevent dryer fires. Failure to clean dryer vents is the number one cause of over 17,000 dryer fires reported each year in the U.S. The Louisville Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard is suggesting holiday fire safety tips in addition to the dryer fire prevention information he offers his customers.

The number of home fires increases around holiday time causing deaths and injuries and millions of dollars in property damages. Many are caused by live Christmas trees and old holiday lights.

Keith O’Loane, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard (http://louisville.dryerventcleaningnow.com/) educates his customer while providing an important home service. Here are some tips that will reduce fire hazards during the holidays:

Live trees will burn quickly, filling a home with fire and deadly gases. One should be sure to select a fresh tree for their home. Needles should be green and hard to bend or break. The trunk should be sticky. If the tree was cut too long ago the needles will be falling off and the trunk will be dry; this is a fire hazard.

When the holidays are over, take the tree to a recycling center or have it hauled by the local waste removal company. Do not attempt to burn it in the fireplace or wood burning stove.

Check all holiday lights before using them each year; look for frayed wires, broken light sockets and other signs of damage or wear. Avoid overloading electrical outlets or stringing too many strands together. Read directions for recommendations and safety precautions.

Use flame resistant decorations; if you use an artificial tree, be sure it is also flame resistant. Use care with candles, placing them on a stable surface and out of reach of small children.

What do dryer vents and Christmas lights have in common? The Wizard has the answer, “Never go to sleep or leave the house if the dryer is running and the Christmas lights are on.”
